Eskom to increase load-shedding to stage 3

Breakdowns and depleted generation reserves have triggered a change in the planned load-shedding schedule.

Eskom has announced that power cuts will be increased to stage 3 from 16:00.

Stage 2 load-shedding is currently implemented, but the power utility says the stage needs to be increased due to a ‘high level of breakdowns and depleted emergency generation reserves’.

As a result, stage 3 load-shedding will start at 16:00 and continue until 05:00 on Tuesday. Stage 2 load-shedding will then come into effect and continue until further notice.

Eskom says a media briefing will be held tomorrow afternoon to provide an outlook for the week ahead.

The power utility adds that 4 177MW is currently on planned maintenance, while another 16 922MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.
