eSwatini man in court after 4-year-old girl’s half-burnt body found in Mpumalanga

A man has appeared in court following the discovery of a child's body. Her mother was found unconscious days earlier in Kaapmuiden.

A man from eSwatini appeared in court on Monday after the half-burnt body of a girl (4) was found in the Kaapmuiden area in Mpumalanga last week.

Lowvelder reports Sanele Fakudze (37) appeared in the KaNyamazane Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder after he was arrested on Friday, July 4.

His arrest followed the discovery of the little girl’s half-burnt body by a farmer in Kaapmuiden on Thursday, July 3.

The mother (28) of the girl was found unconscious along a road in Kaapmuiden a few days earlier, on June 28. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the woman was treated and taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

According to a report, the mother and her daughter were last seen getting into the suspect’s vehicle.

Earlier, the pair were reported missing at the KaNyamazane Police Station, said Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli.

“The suspect is said to be the woman’s male friend,” added Mdhluli.

After the police discovered that the injured woman and the deceased baby were the ones who had been reported missing, they intensified their investigations.

This led to the arrest of Fakudze.

The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned these acts of violence. He vowed that the police would continue to act decisively against GBVF.

Mkhwanazi urged GBVF victims not to withdraw charges against suspects.
