His arrest followed the discovery of the baby’s half burnt body by a farmer in the Kaapmuiden area on Thursday, July 3.
Meanwhile, members of the community found the girl’s mother lying unconscious along the road in Kaapmuiden on Saturday, June 28.
The emergency services were called to the scene. The woman was treated and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
According to a report, the two were last seen getting into the suspect’s vehicle. The 28-year-old woman and her daughter were reported missing at the KaNyamazane Police Station,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli.
“The suspect is said to be the woman’s male friend,” added Mdhluli.
After the police discovered that the injured woman and deceased baby were the ones who had been reported missing, they intensified their investigations.
This led to the arrest of Fakudze.
The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned these acts of violence.
He vowed that the police would continue to act decisively against GBVF.
Mkhwanazi urged GBVF victims not to withdraw charges against suspects.
