eThekwini Municipality warns of possible flooding due to heavy rain

The City’ said their Emergency Services are on high alert in order to be able to respond with speed when the need arises.

eThekwini Municipality has urged the public to exercise caution at all times as the City is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures.

According to the City, the drop in temperatures is compounded by heavy downpours which started last and expected to continue today, 2 June 2021.

City’s spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela said the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an Orange(L5) warning, for disruptive heavy rains expected up until 2pm over the eThekwini region.

According to Mayisela, forecast models show moderate to high rainfall is expected over the course of the day with the higher intensities to be experienced approximately between 8am and 11am.

“There is a high probability of localised flooding of vulnerable areas largely in low lying areas,” he said.

He added that the City’s Emergency Services are on high alert in order to be able to respond with speed when the need arises.
