Ex-wife killed in a fit of rage: Lengthy sentence imposed by Pietermaritzburg court

A man who shot his ex-wife multiple times pleaded guilty to a charge of murder and was sentenced to over two decades in prison.

Ian Rawlins has been sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment for the brutal murder of his ex-wife Delana Rawlins on the eve of Mother’s Day last year.

Rawlins, who appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court yesterday, exchanged words with his attorney before the sentencing and was seen smiling for the first time since the case began.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of the murder last week before Judge Piet Bezuidenhout and admitted to shooting Delana multiple times in a fit of rage.
