Final voter registration weekend in August
Citizens who are not yet registered, or who have changed their address, have one final opportunity to ensure they are eligible to vote on November 4.
With the countdown to the local government elections underway, the Electoral Commission of South Africa is urging eligible citizens to make the most of the final voter registration weekend on August 1 and 2.
Voting stations will be open from 08:00 to 17:00 on both days for those who need to register or update their details.
The commission says registration is also available online at any time through its voter registration portal, allowing South Africans to complete the process from anywhere.
The portal is now zero-rated across all mobile networks, meaning voters can register to vote, update their personal details or check their registration status without using any mobile data.
Voters are further encouraged to confirm their registration details by sending their ID number via SMS to 32810 to ensure they are correctly captured ahead of election day.
During the June voter registration weekend, the commission recorded nearly 2.9 million voter registration transactions nationwide, with young South Africans accounting for 80% of new registrations.
The elections will take place on November 4.
