Fitness influencer laid to rest after fatal eMalahleni shooting
As loved ones gathered to honour the life of Ricardo Spies, the man accused of his murder appeared in a Mpumalanga court.
Family and friends gathered at the NG Kerk Witbank-Suid today (July 2) to bid farewell to Ricardo Spies (27), whose death came as a shock, reports Witbank News.
In a moving celebration of life, his family and friends honoured his memory and the impact he made.
For those left behind, the tragedy is still deeply etched, and the pain is raw as they struggle to process their loss.
Spies was fatally wounded during an altercation that took place in the parking lot outside Hennie’s Witbank on June 21.
Despite all efforts from doctors, he died in hospital.
The accused of his murder, Tinus Oelofse also appeared in the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court today (July 2).

This was for the court to establish whether the firearm used to fatally shoot Spies had been sent for ballistics tests.
Oelofse, in his affidavit that was handed to the court by his attorney, Koos Harmse, said he was protecting himself when he was attacked after his partner allegedly nicked Spies’ vehicle with his vehicle’s door.
“I was attacked and severely injured. I begged them to stop and was again attacked,” he said in his affidavit.
He was granted R5 000 bail on June 26.
