Foreign nationals arrested in Mpumalanga, railway tracks worth millions seized
Tracks found on a truck travelling on the N4 could be linked to a theft case that was opened in August.
Three foreign nationals were arrested yesterday afternoon on the N4 in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, after being caught transporting stolen railway tracks to the value of R3m.
According to a media statement released by the SAPS, the Middelburg Highway Patrol was instrumental in the arrest.
The tracks were allegedly stolen in the Barberton area of Mpumalanga in August, after which a case was opened.
The investigation led to information about the truck, which was subsequently seized for transporting the stolen material.
The trio was charged with the possession of suspected stolen material, and could potentially be linked to the theft of the railway tracks.
They are expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
