Three foreign nationals arrested, R3 million worth of stolen railway tracks recovered

Three foreign nationals were arrested yesterday afternoon on the N4 after being caught transporting stolen railway tracks to the value of R3 million.

According to a media statement released by the SAPS, the Middelburg Highway Patrol were instrumental in the arrest.

The tracks were allegedly stolen in the Barberton area during the month of August after which a case was opened.

The investigation led to information on a truck which was seized for transporting the stolen material.

The trio were charged with the possession of suspected stolen material and could potentially be linked to the theft of the railway tracks.

They are suspected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday).
