Former buyer arrested for R14m Eskom fraud in Mpumalanga

The Hawks say four more suspects are expected to join her in the Hendrina court dock.

A former senior buyer at Eskom was arrested in Ga-Nala (formerly known as Kriel) in Mpumalanga after an internal investigation revealed that she allegedly stole millions from the power utility while she was employed at Arnot Power Station a decade ago.

Thandeka Innocentia Nkosi (42) was remanded in custody in the Hendrina Magistrate Court yesterday for alleged theft, fraud and money laundering amounting to just over R14.7m.

Provincial spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi says Eskom forensic investigators handed over their initial investigation to the Hawks for a further probe.

Police allege Nkosi colluded with the director of an outside company to defraud Eskom.

The matter was postponed until Wednesday when Nkosi will appear alongside four co-accused yet to be named, and possibly attempt to apply for bail.
