The case against murder accused David Knox has been postponed to allow for further investigation by the state.

Knox (56) made his second appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today, where it was made known that information the state requires includes the post-mortem report, as well as CCTV footage of the incident.

Knox is accused of murder after former professional heavyweight boxer Mark ‘Striker’ Strydom (54) was shot dead at Grand Slam Sports Diner on July 20.

Police are investigating a case of murder. Edenvale Police Station communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile previously said the victim was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident began with a dispute at the sports bar. It is alleged that the victim got into an argument with a woman, however, staff intervened. Following this, a dispute then allegedly started between the deceased and Knox.

“When it became chaotic, the deceased pulled out a firearm and fired four or five shots randomly. The suspect [Knox] also pulled out a gun and shot him [Strydom] two times,” Mashile said.

The victim fell to the floor and lost consciousness. Paramedics were called to the scene, but the victim died as a result of his injuries.

Knox made his first appearance in court on July 22 and will return to court on October 2.

He was granted bail at R5 000.
