Four arrested while fleeing Ballito with a stolen car

After a brief chase, both getaway vehicles were stopped just before the Tongaat Tollgate.

Four men were arrested at the Tongaat Toll Plaza on Saturday after allegedly stealing a car in Ballito earlier the morning.

According to James Murray from Marshall Security, the white VW Polo was stolen on Compensation Road.

The alleged thieves who are between the ages of 22 and 36 were driving a Hyundai i20.

“Our special operations team, Tracker SA and the Umhlali Saps, recovered the car within 45 minutes of receiving a report of the theft,” said Murray.

Both vehicles were seen traveling on the N2 southbound and after a brief chase, both vehicles were stopped just before the Tongaat Tollgate.

“Two suspects were arrested in the stolen VW Polo and two suspects were arrested in the Hyundai i20.

” Upon searching the Hyundai, multiple vehicle breaking implements, computer boxes used to steal vehicles, as well as a police radio scanner were found.”

The men are believed to have been involved in numerous vehicle thefts in Durban, Umdloti and Ballito over the past few months.

All four men and the two vehicles were taken to the Umlali Police Station.
