Four business robbery suspects killed in deadly shootout with police

Police are investigating a series of cases, including attempted murder and business robbery.

Four suspects were shot and killed, one injured and another arrested following a business robbery in Stoneridge, Edenvale, earlier today.

Acting Gauteng provincial commissioner Major General Girly Mbele said officers were patrolling the area when they responded to a business robbery.

Mbele said when officers arrived, the suspects fired shots at the responding officers.

“Our members shot back and four suspects died in the shooting. A fifth was injured and the sixth was arrested,” said Mbele.

“The goods which were taken from a nearby store were recovered from the [suspect’s] vehicle.”

She said officers also recovered several unlicensed firearms at the scene.

Mbele said the vehicle which the suspects used had a false registration number.

“At this stage, we cannot confirm if the vehicle was stolen or not as investigators are still on the scene.”

Mbele told Bedfordview Edenvale News that police are investigating cases of attempted murder, possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition, possession of stolen goods and business robbery.

Mbele said more charges may be added as the investigation continues.
