Four lions poisoned in North West

Chicken carcasses that were used to poison the lions were found in the lion camp.

Workers at the Chameleon Village Lion Park on the Old Rustenburg road discovered the dead lions on Wednesday morning, Kormorant reports.

A distraught Hennie Pio, co-owner of the lion park told the media that the poisonings must have taken place during the night as the lions were still heard roaring at 20:00 the previous evening.

“Chicken carcasses that were used to poison the lions were found in the lion camp. We are devastated. My wife and I have raised the lions since they were babies,” he said.

The two male and two female lions, called Mumford, Thor, Mia and Isis, were between seven and 11 years old. The suspects gained entry by crawling under the fence of the park.

The Hartbeespoort police are investigating the poisonings.
