Gang wearing school uniform targets Alberton store

The cashier counted about 20 people dressed like scholars entering the store.

A store in Elandsfontein, Alberton was targeted by robbers dressed in school uniforms who injured a staff member and made off with money and cigarettes among other things.

Bedfordview SAPS communication officer Sergeant Lillian Modiga says the incident happened on September 14.

The shop’s cashier, who was standing behind a counter at the time, told police that about 20 people, wearing school uniforms, entered the store at 14:30.

He tried to prevent all of them from entering at the same time and was hit over the head with a bottle and stabbed in his left arm with a sharp object in the process.

The gang fled the scene when they saw community members approaching.

“They took around R3 000 cash, airtime vouchers, cigarettes and groceries,” says Modiga.
