Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 45 944

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 45 944 with 12 957 recoveries and 244 deaths on Wednesday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Thursday.

The department said out of 30 788 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 20 055 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and they were de-isolated.

The department said 3 091 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 22 388 cases and 7 328 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 9 845 cases and 2 901 recoveries
• Tshwane: 7 235 cases and 1 707 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 1 769 cases and 135 recoveries
• West Rand: 2 902 cases and 886 recoveries
