Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 5 946

Number of confirmed cases increases by 320 since Saturday with 2 524 recoveries.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 5 946 and 2 524 recoveries on Sunday.

Department of Health spokesperson Kwara Kekana said out of 16 177 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person positive for Covid-19) 11 189 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

She said 505 people are currently hospitalised in the public and private facility.

The department confirmed the number of deaths remained at 47 deaths and no new deaths were recorded.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

  • Johannesburg: 2 889 cases and 1 458 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 1 206 cases and 605 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 762 cases and 360 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 135 cases and 37 recoveries
  • West Rand: 539 cases and 64 recoveries
