Gauteng Covid-19 tally increases to 220 056
The department said 1789 people were currently hospitalised for Covid-19 in public and private health facilities.

On Friday, the Gauteng Department of Health confirmed the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province on Thursday was 220 056, with 196 267 recoveries and 4 252 deaths.
According to the department, out of a total of 139 847 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for Covid-19), 119 740 people have completed the 10 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and then were taken out of isolation.
The department said 1 789 people were currently hospitalised for Covid-19 in public and private health facilities.
Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries as follows:
- Johannesburg: 87 841 cases and 82 255 recoveries
- Ekurhuleni: 49 416 cases and 48 147 recoveries
- Tshwane: 48 884 cases and 42 360 recoveries
- Sedibeng: 14 929 cases and 11 475 recoveries
- West Rand: 14 187 cases and 12 030 recoveries
The department indicated that there were 4 799 unallocated cases in the province.
