Gauteng Grade R & 8 online admissions to start in July

Parents were reminded that if they have children who are currently in Grade R, they must apply for them to be admitted to Grade 1.

With online applications drawing closer, the Gauteng education department reminded parents to register their grade 1 and 8 learners for the 2023 academic year.

All online admissions are set to commence on July 22 and will be open until August 19.

Gauteng education department head Edward Mosuwe said that parents with children that are currently in Grade R must apply for their children to be admitted to Grade 1.

Applications can be done by visiting www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

Parents were urged to upload or submit certified copies of the following documents within seven days of applying:

– Parent and child’s ID or passport
– Refugee permit
– Asylum seeker permit
– Permanent residence permit
– Study permit
– South African birth certificate
– Proof of home address
– Proof of work address
– Latest school report and clinic card/immunisation report (Grade 1 only)

Once a successful application has been submitted, parents will be provided with a waiting list number. The number will be sent via SMS to the parent’s cellphone number.

Parents and guardians who have any problems during the application period are encouraged to visit the department’s district offices and decentralised walk-in centres or call the department’s contact centre at 0800 000 789.
