The 2023 public school learner online admissions for grades 1 and 8 in Gauteng will go live on Friday at 08:00.

The provincial education department said that applicants will have to create an account on www.gdeadmissions.gov.za for login credentials to use the system to apply.

To make the application process easier, parents and guardians are encouraged to do the following:
– use home address to see the schools within that feeder zone,
– to increase the chances of placement closer to the parent’s home, select schools within the feeder zone,
– parents can apply to a minimum of three but maximum of five schools for each learner
– parents cannot make more than one application for one learner to the same school
– read and accept the Terms and Conditions.

Documents required to make an application: the parent and child’s ID or passport, refugee permit/ asylum seeker permit/ permanent residence permit/ study permit (where applicable), child’s South African birth certificate, proof of home address, proof of work address, latest school report and clinic card or immunisation report (Grade 1 only).

The documents above must be certified and either uploaded online or submitted physically to the school(s) being applied to.

Parents and guardians must ensure that the information on the documents and the information they enter onto the system match.

It is important that applicants provide one reliable cellphone number to which important SMS notifications regarding the application and security can be received.

All schools will remain open and accessible on the system for applications during the application period.

No documents will be accepted after the end of the application period on August 19 at midnight.

Applications submitted with no documents will be considered incomplete and will only be considered by schools with available space between December 1 and 15.
