Gauteng records 1 000 Covid-19 cases in one day, as total soars to nearly 200 000

About 1 164 new cases were recorded on Sunday.

Gauteng overall Covid-19 positive cases have climbed to 198 671 with 158 705 recoveries and 2 888 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the department of health.

The department said on Sunday, the Gauteng province recorded 1 164 new cases.

The department of health said out of 102 385 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 80 774 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 3 968.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

  • Johannesburg: 80 110 cases and 67 539 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 44 503 cases and 41 181 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 41 999 cases and 31 289 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 13 323 cases and 8 277 recoveries
  • West Rand: 12 739 cases and 10 419 recoveries

  • City of Tshwane 1: Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt, Soshanguve, Rosslyn, Karen Park, Wonderboom, Akasia, Nina Park, Orchards, Amandasig, Theresa Park, Pretoria North (9 229);
  • City of Tshwane 2: Hammanskraal, Temba, Suurman, Dilopye, Stinkwater, Ramotse, New Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Pyramid/Rooiwal, Doornpoort, Kekana Gardens, Marokolong, Randstown, Kanana (3 021);
  • City of Tshwane 3: Atteridgeville, Laudium, Pretoria CBD, Hercules, Danville, Saulsville, Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West (13 034);

  • Merafong City: 2 713 cases;
  • And 91 unallocated cases.
