Gauteng taxi operators prepare to march on Thursday

Tshwane metro police have not granted permission for the march.

A massive march planned for Thursday threatens to leave many commuters stranded.

According to a report by the African News Agency, the taxi operators in Gauteng who are affiliated to the SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) will embark on a march against “high minibus taxi purchase costs”.

The spokesperson for Santaco, Ralph Jones, was quoted as saying that no taxis would run on Thursday as a result of the march and that the members of the industry planned to hand over a memorandum which outlined their grievances to the SA Taxi Finance company in Pretoria, the African News Agency reported.

Tshwane metro police were reportedly said to be aware of the planned march although permission had not been granted and said it would be illegal should it go ahead.
