Gauteng’s R21 closed due to low-hanging power lines

The R21 highway is still closed as a result of high-voltage power lines that are hanging dangerously low over the freeway.

Eskom technicians have arrived on site to repair the low-hanging power lines that resulted in the closure of the R21 highway between Olifantsfontein and Nellmapius roads in Gauteng this morning.

“The estimated restoration time is currently unavailable,” said Eskom.

The R21 highway was closed in both directions after a powerline mast was damaged.

The damage resulted in high-voltage powerlines hanging dangerously low over the freeway.

The R21 northbound, towards Pretoria, is closed at the Olifantsfontein Road off-ramp; while the the R21 southbound from Pretoria to Kempton Park is closed at Nellmapius Road.

Road users are advised to use alternative routes.

Motorists driving from Kempton Park to Pretoria can take the Olifantsfontein Road off-ramp towards Midrand, while motorists driving from Pretoria can make use of the Nellmapius Road off-ramp through Irene and Centurion to connect to the N1.
