George pastor robbery: Suspect caught, one still on the run

A breakthrough has been made in the case of the 84-year-old pastor who was attacked, beaten and robbed in his Pacaltsdorp home, George, on Wednesday.

George Herald reports that two days later, on Friday, a suspect was apprehended by members of the Pacaltsdorp Men’s Group and handed over to the police.

According to William Prince from the group, they reacted immediately after the robbery, working day and night to gather information on the suspects’ movements and routines. On Friday evening they put their plan into action with police present.

“Our first attempt was successful and we caught him just as we had planned. We questioned him until he revealed the locations of the phone, watch and bank card. We recovered the items exactly where he said they would be,” Prince says.

A second suspect is still on the run.

The robbery took place around 15:30 when two men stormed into the victim’s Disa Street home. They assaulted him and took groceries, a wristwatch, a Samsung cellphone, bank cards and cash before forcing him into his own vehicle. The pensioner managed to escape and alert neighbours.

A case of house robbery has been opened.
