Girl (14) stabbed to death in Limpopo: Stepfather in court

A man was arrested after his 14-year-old stepdaughter was stabbed to death, allegedly by him, in Ga-Thoka.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned domestic and gender-based violence following the murder of a 14-year-old girl in Ga-Thoka village, outside Mankweng, on Friday.

According to Polokwane Review, a 48-year-old man was arrested after his stepdaughter was stabbed multiple times, allegedly by him, while walking to school with a fellow learner.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect approached the victim and launched a violent attack, leaving her critically injured on the road.

“The suspect attacked and stabbed her several times with a sharp object and left her helplessly on the road,” he adds.

Emergency services responded, but the girl was declared dead at the scene.

She was still wearing her school uniform when police arrived.

“A search operation was activated for the suspect, and he was located in Polokwane, where he was arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had a domestic dispute with the deceased’s mother the previous night,” his statement reads.

The suspect will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder.

Hadebe urges communities to report domestic violence before it escalates to tragic levels.
