Gunmen attack Mpumalanga security boss, kill guard hours later

A security firm owner in Mhluzi survived another attempted hit before a security guard was shot dead two hours later near his home.

Another attempt has been made on the life of a prominent security firm owner in Mhluzi, outside Middelburg in Mpumalanga, followed by the murder of a security guard.

According to Middelburg Observer, Fotoboy ‘Fofo’ Makua, the owner of Foto Security, was at his home in Extension 1, Mhluzi, when several gunmen opened fire.

The attack took place last night at about 21:30 while Fofo was at home with his family.

It is believed he went outside to address some of his security guards, and after they left, four suspects approached and opened fire. He took cover behind his vehicle, which was riddled with bullets.

He managed to get inside his house but was followed by one of the gunmen, who reportedly pressed his weapon against Fofo’s head.

The gun jammed, and the suspect fled, while Fofo sought help from neighbours.

Security guard shot shortly after attack

Two hours later, a security guard from Fofo’s security company was shot dead not far from Fofo’s home.

The guard was shot at about 23:20 in Mavuso Crescent, Extension 1, and was found lying in the street.

A media enquiry was sent to SAPS, but no response was received by the time of publication.

All attempts to reach Fofo for comment have been unsuccessful.

Previous attempt on Fofo’s life

This is the second attempt on Fofo’s life, following a previous murder attempt on August 12 last year.

According to previous reports by Middelburg Observer, Fofo was admitted to ICU after a brutal panga assault left him with severe head injuries.

Several men approached him at the BP Garage on Dr Mandela Drive and insulted him. Fofo contacted one of his guards and drove towards eMhluzi Mall, but his attackers blocked his route with their vehicle.

Shots were fired during the altercation, and one of the attackers attempted to run over Fofo, crashing into a yard in the process. He was then assaulted with a panga.
