Hartbeespoort man accused of murdering wife and stepdaughter to apply for bail

When he entered the courtroom, family members of the victims raised placards with photos of the women calling for him not to be released on bail.

The formal bail application of 61-year-old Paul Prinsloo, who is accused of murdering his wife and stepdaughter in Hartbeespoort in November 2023, could not take place in the Brits Magistrates’ Court today (Monday) after water and electricity interruptions hindered proceedings.

Prinsloo is accused of shooting and killing his wife Magdaleen Prinsloo (58) and his stepdaughter Ruzanne Weideman (31) with a hunting rifle in their Kosmos home on November 27 last year.

Police said at the time that an argument between the man and the women broke out around 14:00 after which Prinsloo fetched a hunting rifle and killed both women.

It was previously reported that the family had guests who were outside by the swimming pool during the shooting. Prinsloo was arrested on the scene.

He was expected to formally apply for bail today, but the case was postponed to April 15 after his attorney Tom Pritchard told the court the proceedings would be hampered by water and electricity interruptions in Brits.

As Prinsloo entered court, family and friends of Magdaleen raised posters with photos of the two women and the words “No bail! Justice!” Prinsloo showed no emotion.

Magdaleen Prinsloo’s sisters Carlien Kleyn and Nici Hanly at court on Monday, March 18.

Friends of Prinsloo’s who attended the court proceedings told Kormorant that his mother died last week and her funeral was held on Tuesday.

Prinsloo initially abandoned bail but he is now represented by a new legal team.

Advocate Zirk Pansegrouw and Pritchard will represent him during his bail application on April 15.

Magdaleen’s sisters, Nici Hanly and Carlien Kleyn said after the court proceedings that they just wanted justice for their murdered sister and cousin.
