Headless woman murder court date set

The five accused for the murder of Desiree Murugan appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Friday, with the trial set to begin on November 9, 2015.

Traditional healer Sibonekaliso Zaba Makhosi Mbili, 32, Vusumuzi Jabulani Gumede, 30, and three minors were charged with the murder of Murugan, whose headless corpse was discovered by municipal workers at the Shallcross Sports Grounds in Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal on August 18, 2014, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.

Murugan’s sister, Jennet, said the family was happy that a trial date had been set and that they hoped all five of the accused get more than one life sentence.“This will finally give us closure and most importantly, those barbarians who murdered my sister will get their long awaited punishment,” she said.

“When we see them in court, they are smiling and waving at their family and friends and do not show any remorse; so I wish for them to face the harshest penalties as we do not feel sorry for them,” she added.

When Murugan’s half naked body was discovered, crime scene investigators at the time had alleged that her head had been severed with a blunt object, and that the murder had been committed elsewhere. The missing head was later found in the Imfume area.
