Hennops River bodies: Reflector jacket and vehicle parts found

Police have found car parts and a suspected submerged vehicle possibly linked to the three constables in the Hennops River.

Police discovered vehicle parts and a suspected submerged car in the Hennops River on Wednesday night, possibly linked to the three missing constables, as the multi-agency search effort intensifies.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said vehicle parts, including a front and rear vehicle bumper, have been found by the search and rescue teams working on this operation.

She added that all three families have been notified of this latest development.

“Experts are trying to establish if these vehicle parts are linked to the VW polo that the three police officers were travelling in. A police reflector jacket belonging to one of the deceased police officers has also been found.

“SAPS divers, City of Tshwane divers and EMS, SAPS Special Task Force (STF) divers, Search and Rescue South Africa, have located a metal object that they suspect may be the missing vehicle.”

Mathe said this metal object was felt by divers 4km from the N1.

“There is no confirmation as yet as this metal object is covered by debris.

“SAPS crime intelligence, the cybercrime unit, detectives, Lyttleton community police forum (CPF) Traffic, Fidelity Secure Fire, Vision Tactical private security are also forming part of this operation.”

The three police constables, 30-year-old Keamogetswe Buys, 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge, and 24-year-old Cebekhulu Linda, disappeared last Wednesday while travelling from Bloemfontein to their deployment area in Limpopo.

Five bodies were recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion during an intensive two-day search for three missing police constables.

Among the dead were Constables Boipelo Senoge, Cebekhulu Linda, and Keamogetswe Buys, along with a Lyttelton police station employee who was driving a Renault Kangoo van, and a fifth, still-unidentified, decomposed body.

The search, led by SAPS and Tshwane Metro divers, began after vehicle debris believed to be from the constables’ missing VW Polo was found near the river on Monday, April 28.

The recovery followed days of tireless searching by a high-level SAPS task team across Gauteng, Limpopo, and the Free State. Investigators tracked a route from the Grasmere Toll Plaza on the N1, through the Buccleuch interchange, and onto John Voster Drive before locating key evidence near the river.

The VW Polo has not yet been recovered, and police say the cause of death remains under investigation.
