While tap-and-go is now available at toll plazas, transactions are processed in real time with your bank. Occasional connectivity issues may cause a decline, so it’s wise to have a backup payment method.

Since December 1, Sanral toll plazas have accepted Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) tap-and-go bank cards, as well as phones and smart devices linked to your bank card.

What you need:

  • A tap-enabled EMV bank card or compatible mobile device – tap must be activated by your bank
  • Sufficient funds
  • Be ready: Card or device in hand, windows down, drive up close to the reader

Tag and drive

Sanral’s e-tag system allows seamless, quicker passage through toll plazas. The road agency says it is ‘the most efficient way to pay tolls’.

Funds are secure and ring-fenced for toll use only. You can register now by visiting https://mobilityaccount.sanral.co.za or your nearest toll plaza office.
