High-ranking Ekurhuleni metro official’s murder: Accused’s bail hearing delayed

Details emerged in court about the man accused of killing Ekurhuleni metro official Mpho Mafole, including claims that he was on bail for another murder when the fatal shooting took place.

The bail application of Thabani Goodwill Ntshalintshali, who stands accused of murdering Ekurhuleni’s group divisional head for corporate and forensic audits, Mpho Mafole, has been postponed to October 31.

Kempton Express reports that Ntshalintshali appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court yesterday, where his legal representative requested additional time to respond to arguments presented by the state.

The charges relate to the fatal shooting of Mafole on June 30 in Kempton Park.

In his affidavit submitted as part of his bail application, Ntshalintshali confirmed that he is aware of the charges but intends to plead not guilty.

He told the court that he is seeking bail to reunite with his children and loved ones and to raise funds to pay his legal representatives. He also confirmed that he is in possession of a passport and is willing to surrender it if required by the court.

State opposes bail

The state is opposing bail, arguing that Ntshalintshali poses a threat to the community.

The prosecution noted that he was already out on bail for a separate murder case when Mafole was killed.

The state also highlighted discrepancies between Ntshalintshali’s affidavit and evidence presented in court, including details about his arrest.

It was further alleged that he was driving a vehicle that followed Mafole on the morning of the murder and was later seen fleeing the scene after the shooting.

The magistrate granted the defence’s request for a postponement to October 31, allowing time to prepare a response to the state’s submissions. Ntshalintshali will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
