High-speed car chase and shooting near Pretoria shopping centre

Police say suspects in a Toyota bakkie opened fire on a security vehicle and fired several shots before they evaded arrest.

Police are investigating an attempted murder case after a high-speed car chase and shooting incident near a shopping centre in Silver Lakes, Pretoria, yesterday morning.

Private security companies Omega Risk Solutions and Bidvest Protea Coin were on the scene during the shooting incident.

According to police, the suspects driving a white Toyota bakkie opened fire on a security vehicle which was following them.

The vehicles were travelling on Solomon Mahlangu Drive.

The shooter opened fire from the rear right door of the bakkie and shot the vehicle several times between the windscreen and bonnet.

The security company called for backup and several vehicles were soon in pursuit of the bakkie.

Suspects continued to shoot at their pursuers, damaging several vehicles.

Unfortunately the suspects got away on the Rossouw offramp on the N4 after the security vehicles lost sight of them.

A total of 11 bullet casings were found on the scene.

No injuries have been reported.
