A hijacked truck, along with its driver, was recovered in Sinoville by the Tshwane Metro Police during their morning peak hour traffic operations along the R101 on Wednesday.

According to metro police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, the officers noticed a truck with a Zimbabwean number plate, overloaded with passengers on the front seat.

“They stopped the truck and three suspects got out and ran in the direction of the Bon Accord squatter camp.

“The officers searched the truck and found a truck driver tied up by his hands and feet.”

Mahamba says according to the driver, he was hijacked and robbed on the N1 highway by the suspects.

Mahamba says while conducting investigations, it was discovered that a vehicle with blue lights followed by a white BMW stopped the truck that was traveling northbound on the N1 highway just after Petroport.

“A silver Nissan Nivara bakkie stopped behind the truck and the suspects from the BMW pointed a firearm at the driver, duct taped his mouth, hands and legs then drove the truck with the driver inside.”
