Hilarious crime comedy ‘The Shakedown’ hits SA screens

The first South African Amazon Original film, with a star-studded cast, follows a man’s desperate attempt to maintain his golden boy image, leading to a comedy of errors.

The Shakedown, a dark comedy crime film featuring a stellar cast including LA-based Carl Beukes (Dominion, Lioness), Emmanuel Castis (Warrior, G20), and the much-loved Julia Anastasopoulos (Tali Babes, Suzelle DIY) the first South African Amazon Original film, has hit South Africa’s screens.

The Shakedown follows the story of Justin Diamond, a well-respected medical aid broker who finds himself entangled in the Cape Town underworld after his mistress threatens to reveal the secret of their affair.

Jack Parow makes a notable appearance as one of the bumbling hitmen Mikey.

 

The plot thickens as Justin’s desperate attempts to maintain his golden boy reputation, lead him down a path filled with dangerous criminals, mistaken identities, and comic mishaps. As Justin teams up with his ‘black sheep’ brother, Dovi, to handle the escalating chaos, viewers are in for a comedy-of-errors crime caper that will keep them on the edge of their seats.

Other featured roles include Milton Schorr (Warrior, One Piece), James Borthwick (Hotel), David Isaacs (Joe Barber, Spinners), SA rapper icon Jack Parow and rising star Berenice Barbier.

Directed and co-written by Ari Kruger, a filmmaker renowned for his work on the hit web-series “Suzelle DIY” and the multi-award winning “Tali’s Diary” series on Showmax. In his first feature film directorial debut, Kruger showcases his exceptional talent for blending comedy with action while still delivering a story filled with heart.

Kruger’s accolades include three Best Comedy Director wins at the South African Film & Television Awards for his work on Tali’s Diary series. His diverse portfolio also includes directing award-winning short films, TV commercials and comedy specials for Nik Rabinowitz and Marc Lottering.
