Hillary Gardee murder trial resumes today after short postponement

The Hillary Gardee murder trial was postponed to allow the defence to consult with the accused, who is already serving two life sentences.

After the long-anticipated commencement of Hillary Gardee’s murder trial yesterday, the matter was postponed to today.

According to Lowvelder, NPA spokesperson Monica Nyuswa confirmed that the postponement was granted to allow the defence to consult with the accused.

Hillary was the daughter of EFF deputy president Godrich Gardee. Her body was found in a plantation between Sabie and Lydenburg on May 3, 2022, after she had been missing for around five days.

The suspect, Hlabirwa Rassie Nkuna, was out on parole at the time of the murder and was later arrested on August 11, 2022.

He confessed to meeting Hillary on Facebook, which led to an in-person meeting on April 29 in Mbombela. Nkuna is currently serving two life sentences for murders committed after Hillary’s death.
