Mpumalanga High Court postpones Gardee murder trial

Many EFF supporters met in front of the Mpumalanga High Court.

After the long-anticipated commencement of Hillary Gardee’s murder trial today, October 20, the matter was postponed to tomorrow.

Monica Nyuswa, the spokesperson of the National Prosecuting Authority, confirmed that the trial was postponed to allow the defence to consult with the accused.

Hillary is the daughter of the EFF deputy president Godrich Gardee. Her body was found in a plantation between Sabie and Lydenburg on May 3, 2022, after she had been missing for around five days.

The suspect, Hlabirwa Rassie Nkuna, was out on parole at the time of the murder and was later arrested on August 11, 2022.

He confessed that he had met Hillary on Facebook, which led to an in-person meeting on April 29 in Mbombela.

Nkuna is currently serving two life sentences for murders committed after Hillary’s death.
