Mbombela’s Naomi Tagg earned global acclaim in Moscow, debuting with the Bolshoi Orchestra and bagging an ‘Artist of the Year’ award.
Lowveld musician Naomi Tagg, an electric violinist and crossover artist, has been awarded Artist of the Year – South Africa at the prestigious 8th BraVo International Music Awards, held at the historic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
“It has been such a significant moment for me, not only personally but also as a South African artist representing our region on an international stage. Being recognised at the BraVo Awards was really a milestone in my career,” Tagg told Lowvelder.
The event is known for celebrating international excellence in ballet, opera, classical and crossover music on a global stage.
It brings together leading artists, orchestras, and industry figures.

Orchestral debut with Bolshoi Orchestra
Aside from receiving an award, Tagg also made her orchestral debut with the Bolshoi Orchestra, where she presented the world premiere of her arrangement of Asturias (Leyenda).
“This moment represents years of work and evolution as an artist. It is an honour to be recognised and awarded in Russia, a country with such a rich and historic cultural legacy,” Tagg said.
Established international career
As one of South Africa’s leading electric violinists, Tagg has a career spanning more than two decades with performances in over 20 countries.
She has been residing in Mbombela for over a decade and lives with her husband and children.
Local performances in the Lowveld
Locally, she is part of the acclaimed group ‘Meisie in the Lowveld’, which brings women’s stories to life through music and storytelling via a blend of classical, cabaret and contemporary styles.
