Renowned Hollywood actor Val Kilmer passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 65.

His daughter, Mercedes, told the New York Times that he died of pneumonia. He had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered.

Kilmer made his big screen debut in the spy movie spoof, Top Secret, in 1984. He starred as a crowd-pleasing, hip-shaking American singer in Berlin, unwittingly involved in an East German plot to reunify the country.

He was renowned for his role in Top Gun and played starring roles in Batman and Jim Morrison.
