A man who allegedly shot and wounded one of two brothers in Kenyon Howden Road in Montclair in Durban on Monday has been charged with attempted murder.

Elva Marden appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

He was arrested for suspected attempted murder by police on Wednesday.

It is alleged that Marden was travelling on Kenyon Howden Road when an altercation between him and two brothers broke out. This reportedly stemmed from a road rage incident.

According to police sources, the two brothers were travelling on Kenyon Howden Road when they noticed a driver trying to overtake their car.

A police report alleges that the accused insulted the two men, which resulted in an exchange of words.

Montclair police spokesperson Sergeant Noma Mnguni says the man handed himself over to the police shortly after the incident.

Mnguni says the accused told the police that the two men tried to rob him.

“He opened a case of attempted robbery at the police station. The injured man was transported to hospital. He opened a case of attempted murder,” says Mnguni.

Mnguni says Montclair police are investigating cases of attempted murder and robbery.
