IEC commissioner Nomsa Masuku arrested for R1.2m bursary fraud

Masuku appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge after the Hawks arrested her on Friday morning.

Dr Nomsa Praisy Masuku (62), a former Standard Bank employee and current Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) official appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge Magistrates for R1.2 million fraud.

She was arrested on Friday morning by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI).

Hawks’ spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said it is reported that the Standard Bank ex-employee was the Head of the CSI Programme for the “Adopt A School Trust” which was established to hand out bursaries to deserving students and schools participating in the Adopt A School programme.
