Illovo man arrested for drugs and child pornography

A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged for possession of drugs and child pornography following an operation at a house in Illovo, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, 16 August.

The operation was conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit and Metro Police after information on drug activities was received.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said, “Police approached the house and recovered crystal meth as well as cocaine powder in his possession. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to Amanzimtoti police station for processing. The recovered drugs had an estimated street value of R94 000. Police continued with the search and they discovered child pornographic activities. Photos and videos of children were recovered and his cellphone was seized. The man was further charged for possession of child pornography.”

Investigating officers from the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences: Serial and Electronic Crimes Investigation unit are conducting further investigations regarding a heavily pregnant 15-year-old girl who was found inside the house.

“The suspect’s vehicle was also seized for further investigation. Investigations to determine if the suspect is linked to other drug related crimes is continuing,” she added.
