Influencer’s killing sparks shock as accused remains behind bars

The accused in the fatal shooting of Ricardo Spies outside a popular restaurant in Corridor Hill remains in custody ahead of his next court appearance later this week.

The man accused of murder following the fatal shooting of social media influencer Ricardo Spies remains in custody and is expected back in court this Friday (June 26), reports Witbank News.

He was arrested shortly after the incident at a parking area at Hennie’s in Corridor Hill, eMalahleni, where Spies, 27, was shot during what is believed to have started as a confrontation linked to a minor collision involving his brother’s vehicle.

Spies later died of his injuries in hospital, despite efforts by medical staff to save his life. His death has sent shockwaves through the community.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, an extraordinary scene unfolded as members of the public coordinated via a Zello channel, helping to clear routes and block traffic in an effort to get emergency services through to the hospital as quickly as possible.

Witbank News reported earlier that a 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene. Police confirmed he faces charges of murder and discharging a firearm in a municipal area. The motive is still under investigation.

Family spokesperson and aunt Andra Holtshausen said the loss still feels “unreal,” adding that the family is deeply grateful for the public’s support and prayers.
