Info sought after deadly Thembalethu shooting

A 64-year-old man was shot and killed after confronting intruders at his Asazani home, with suspects still at large.

Thembalethu police have launched a murder investigation following a fatal shooting in Zone 6, Asazani, on Saturday morning.

George Herald reports that, according to southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, officers responded to reports of a shooting and, upon arrival, found a 64-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Circumstances under investigation

It is alleged that the victim went to the bathroom when he came across intruders on his property. Several shots were fired. The victim sustained a gunshot wound and collapsed.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established and forms part of the ongoing investigation. The suspects remain at large.

Appeal for information

Thembalethu detectives are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information that could help trace the assailants is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
