Inquiry into alleged Sars petrol bombing attempt in KZN

Police are investigating a possible attempt to petrol bomb the Sars building in Pietermaritzburg amid a wage strike by employees.

Pietermaritzburg police have opened an inquiry into allegations that three people tried to petrol bomb the Sars building.

Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson Sergeant Sifiso Gwala said the incident happened at around 06:00 on Wednesday morning at the Pietermaritzburg Sars building.

He said security guards noticed three men throwing something into the Sars parking lot.

“Upon checking, there were four bottles with a piece of cloth inside them, including the one that was thrown, looking like a petrol bomb. There was no damage to the offices. Police and the bomb disposal unit were called. An inquiry has been opened,” he said.

Currently, there is an ongoing protest by Sars employees who are demanding a wage increase.
