Insurance murders: Limpopo sergeant’s relatives arrested
Sergeant Rachel Kutumela is set to apply for bail in a Polokwane court today, while two of her relatives will make their first appearance.
Relatives of murder accused Limpopo Sergeant Rachel Kutumela, aged 27 and 47 respectively, were arrested yesterday.
The duo is accused of playing a role in the six insurance murder cases that Kutumela (43) was arrested in connection with last Thursday.
It is alleged she cashed out over R10m between 2019 and 2024.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says Kutumela’s family members were arrested in Mabokelele village in Moletjie by the Limpopo police’s Tracking Team.
“The investigating officer for this case obtained a J50 warrant of arrest. The pair is expected to appear together with the accused in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court [today] on various charges including murder, fraud and money laundering,” she adds.
Kutumela, dubbed ‘Rosemary 2.0’ by the public, was arrested following a lengthy investigation by Captain Keshi Mabunda on allegations that Kutumela fraudulently benefited from funeral, accidental and life cover from various banks and insurance companies.
She faces six counts of premeditated murder, 12 counts of fraud and defeating the ends of justice and is expected to apply for bail today.
