Joburg man arrested for shooting stepson

A man, 63, has been arrested on a double attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot and injured his stepson during a scuffle in Jukskei Park, Fourways in Johannesburg.

Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the man and his wife were going through a divorce. The wife was with his stepson when he went to his wife’s home on Sunday,Fourways Review reported.

Muthan said the man then left and returned again on the same day with a gun. He then proceeded to shoot at the woman twice, missing her. He added a scuffle then broke out between the stepson and the man after the shot was fired. The stepson was shot in the leg during the scuffle.

“The man was arrested, and the stepson is recovering in Milpark Hospital,” said Muthan.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her stepdaughter in Kamhlushwa, Mpumalanga, in March.

Tonga police spokesperson Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi said police received a call informing them the community of Kamhlushwa had gone to Mzinti Trust, where Klara Masinga confessed to giving the child an overdose of medicine and dumping her body in the bushes next to her house.

Nyambi said the body was found in a bush next to Mlumati River, about 200m from the suspect’s house, covered with used pampers and an empty bag of mielie meal.
