Joburg police suspect ‘sick’ child (3) was murdered

The girl was brought to a clinic in Primrose by her stepfather who claimed she fell ill at home.

Police are investigating a possible murder after a deceased three-year-old child was taken to Wannenburg Clinic in Primrose on Wednesday with serious injuries last week.

According to Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lillian Modiga, Primrose police officers were called to the clinic shortly after 13:00 on Wednesday.

“When officers arrived, nurses showed them a child who was brought in by a man believed to be the child’s stepfather.

“The child was wrapped in a blanket. She had blood in her mouth and bruises all over her body. The child also had a wound on the back of her head,” she says.

Modiga says due to the injuries, a murder docket was opened.

She adds that according to the child’s stepfather the child became sick at home.

“Detectives and officers left the clinic with the stepfather to go the family’s house in Klopper Park for further investigations.

“Should conclusive evidence be found of foul play the docket will be transferred to Bedfordview SAPS,” Modiga says.

She added that the investigation into the case was ongoing and further details would be released at a later stage.
