Kenyan police lob teargas canisters at school kids
Images continue to circulate online after police in Kenya were photographed throwing tear gas canisters at a group of pupils at the Langata Road Primary School and activists who were protesting against the grabbing of the school’s playground.
Three children were injured when they joined the protesters in pulling down a perimeter wall that had been built on the school’s playground this morning, Standard Media reported.
A number of children were reportedly carrying twigs and placards condemning the grabbing.
Elijah Mwangi, the officer commanding the Langata Police Division (OCPD), said the incident would be investigated.
Many took to Twitter to condemn the incident.
Governance specialist Javas Bigambo said: “The police officers teargassing children need education more than the kids”.
Twitter user Maria Mbeneka said: “This is the legacy we leave our children. That they have to fight blood, sweat & tears with no help from the government #LangataPrimary”.
