KNP field ranger killed in shooting incident

Police and SANParks are investigating the incident after a field ranger was killed while on duty in the northern part of the park.

SANParks yesterday announced the tragic passing of a field ranger in a shooting incident while on duty in the Shangoni Section in the northern part of the Kruger National Park (KNP).

“Details remain unclear, but SAPS and SANParks are working closely to establish circumstances surrounding his passing,” says the park.

The KNP’s head ranger, Cathy Dreyer, expressed her sincerest condolences to the family on behalf of the park management.

“It is a sad day when we lose one of ours in the line of duty. We are working with the police and the colleagues and will provide an update at an appropriate time,” says Dreyer.

The name of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been informed.
