Krugersdorp killer did not plan to escape – department

Reports suggested 'Electus per Deus' killings mastermind Cecilia Steyn planned to escape prison, but an official confirms it is not true.

Department of Correctional Services national spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo has telephonically confirmed that Krugersdorp cult serial killer Cecilia Steyn did not plan to escape from prison, despite many reports on the matter.

When the Krugersdorp News reached out to Nxumalo, he stated that this is ‘false news’.

“The media houses that have published stories that she was planning to escape is being fooled around by their sources. It is not true,” Nxumalo said.

He added that ‘it is a lie’ that there was an escape attempt.

“We see no need to honour lies with a statement,” Nxumalo concluded.

Steyn, said to have been the mastermind in the case known as the Electus per Deus (Chosen by God) killings, is currently serving 13 life sentences in a Johannesburg prison.
